Private air ambulance and medical air transport
National and international medical transfers coordinated by FlairFly through certified air operators and qualified service providers. An air ambulance is an aircraft configured for the medical transport of a patient, with or without a stretcher, medical equipment and medical personnel on board, depending on the patient’s condition and the requirements of the mission.Medical air transport can be used for interhospital transfers, medical repatriation from abroad, medical evacuations, transfers from healthcare facilities to specialist centres and other international medical transport requirements, whether urgent or planned.Depending on the patient’s medical condition and the requirements of the transfer, the mission may require a stretcher configuration, monitoring, oxygen, ventilation or other medical equipment, as well as the presence of an accompanying doctor or nurse.FlairFly coordinates the aviation component of the mission through authorised operators and can integrate the flight with medical assistance, ground ambulance services and bed-to-bed transfers, providing a single point of contact for the overall coordination. The role of FlairFly: independent aviation broker
FlairFly acts as an independent aviation broker and Aviation Advisor, coordinating air transport solutions through certified operators and qualified service providers.FlairFly does not have its own fleet, does not operate aircraft directly and does not provide medical services. The clinical assessment of the patient, fitness to fly and determination of the assistance required are the responsibility of the medical professionals involved in the mission. Our role is to coordinate the elements required for the transfer: aircraft, medical configuration, stretcher, medical equipment, accompanying doctor or nurse, ground ambulance and connections between the different facilities. Each mission is assessed according to the patient’s condition, the route, the required timing and the operational requirements. The objective is to identify a solution suited to the specific case, without automatically resorting to the most complex configuration. When the transfer also requires a private jet or helicopter, FlairFly can coordinate this component through qualified operators. When a private medical flight may be required
A private medical flight may be considered when a patient transfer requires greater flexibility than regular scheduled air services, or when the patient’s medical and operational needs call for a dedicated solution. This may involve an urgent transfer, medical repatriation from abroad, a planned interhospital transfer or a mission where the availability of a scheduled flight is not compatible with the patient’s needs. The solution may involve a dedicated air ambulance, a private jet with medical assistance on board or, when the patient’s condition allows, a scheduled flight with specific assistance services. The appropriate configuration depends on the patient’s medical condition and mobility, the need for a stretcher, oxygen, monitoring or other medical equipment, the presence of medical personnel and the route to be operated.FlairFly gathers the necessary information, shares it with the relevant professionals and coordinates the aviation solution best suited to the mission.Air ambulance, stretcher flights and medical assistance
When the patient’s medical condition requires it, the transfer may involve a configuration with a stretcher, medical equipment and medical personnel on board.Depending on the patient’s needs, medical assistance may include an accompanying doctor, an accompanying nurse or a medical team with specific expertise suited to the type of transfer. For patients requiring a higher level of care, the aircraft can be configured with monitoring systems, oxygen, ventilation and other equipment required for the transport of critically ill patients. However, not every medical transfer requires a configuration comparable to an intensive care unit. The aircraft configuration and level of assistance must be determined according to the patient’s condition and the recommendations of the medical professionals involved. For information on the organisation of medical evacuations and medical transfers, you can also consult the World Health Organization guidance.Medical repatriation from abroad
A medical repatriation from abroad may be necessary when a patient needs to return to their home country to continue treatment or to be transferred to a healthcare facility identified by their family or the medical professionals involved in their care. The mission may involve several elements: assessment of the patient’s condition, aircraft selection, medical configuration, medical or nursing personnel, ground ambulance services at departure and arrival, and coordination with the destination healthcare facility.International transfers must also take into account the procedures applicable at departure, during transit and upon arrival, as well as the documentation required for the patient’s transport.FlairFly coordinates the aviation and logistical components of the mission through qualified operators and service providers, maintaining communication between the different parties involved in the transfer. The objective is to ensure continuity between ground transport, the medical flight and arrival at the destination healthcare facility.Patient transfers between hospitals and healthcare facilities
Medical air transport is a solution to consider when the distance between two facilities, or local operating conditions, makes ground transport impractical or unsuitable for the required clinical timeframe. It can be used to transfer a patient from a hospital to a specialist centre, from a healthcare facility to a rehabilitation centre, or between facilities located in different cities or countries. The transfer may require coordination between the departing ambulance, airport, aircraft, medical personnel, arrival airport and ambulance to the destination facility. The aircraft configuration, stretcher requirements, medical equipment, medical personnel and transfer times are assessed on a case-by-case basis according to the requirements of the mission.FlairFly coordinates the aviation component and the necessary connections, providing a single point of contact for the organisation of the transfer. For further information on the procedures and organisation of medical transport, you can also consult the documentation published by the Italian Ministry of Health.Medical evacuation and MedEvac missions
A medical evacuation or MedEvac mission may be necessary when a patient is in a remote location, on an island, abroad or in an area where reaching an appropriate healthcare facility requires air transport. Each mission is assessed according to the patient’s condition, the distance involved, the availability of suitable healthcare facilities, the aircraft configuration and the level of assistance required during the transfer.Critically ill patients may require specific equipment, continuous monitoring and qualified medical personnel. The decision regarding fitness for transfer and the level of assistance required rests with the medical professionals involved.FlairFly coordinates the aviation component of the mission through certified operators and can integrate the flight with medical personnel and ground ambulance services. For information on the management of medical evacuations, you can also refer to the World Health Organization guidance.Private jet with medical assistance
Not every medical transfer necessarily requires a dedicated air ambulance. In some cases, when the patient’s condition allows it, a private jet with medical assistance may be considered. The configuration may include an accompanying doctor or nurse, oxygen, monitoring systems or other equipment compatible with the patient’s needs and the aircraft being used. The main difference compared with a dedicated air ambulance concerns the configuration and level of assistance required. The solution must always be proportionate to the patient’s medical condition and the characteristics of the mission. This assessment makes it possible, when appropriate, to identify a suitable solution without automatically resorting to a more complex medical configuration than necessary.FlairFly can coordinate private jets and helicopters through qualified operators, integrating the aircraft with medical assistance and ground transfers when required.Stretcher transport on scheduled airline flights
As an alternative to a private flight or a dedicated air ambulance, when the patient’s condition allows it, medical transport on a stretcher on a scheduled airline flight may also be considered.Several airlines have specific procedures for the transport of passengers on stretchers, including ITA Airways, Lufthansa, SWISS and Turkish Airlines. Availability must be checked according to the airline, route, aircraft and the patient’s condition.Unlike a private flight, this solution depends on the airline’s schedule: an available flight must be used and its scheduled departure time respected, without the possibility of freely choosing the departure time. The availability of the stretcher and any assistance services must also be confirmed by the airline.A MEDIF, Medical Information Form, or other equivalent medical documentation may be required according to the airline’s procedures. Depending on the patient’s condition and the applicable requirements, an accompanying doctor or nurse may also be required.FlairFly can coordinate the entire process: from checking the airline’s availability and managing the request and required documentation to organising the flight. When required, we can also coordinate ground ambulance services, medical escort and a bed-to-bed transfer. If you would like to check whether medical transport on a stretcher can be arranged on a scheduled airline flight, send us your request with the route, planned date and main requirements concerning the patient. We will assess the feasibility and coordinate the overall solution.Ground ambulance and bed-to-bed coordination
Air transport is only one part of the mission. For many patients, it is also necessary to arrange the ground connections between the healthcare facility, the departure airport, the arrival airport and the final destination.FlairFly can coordinate the ground ambulances required and arrange a complete bed-to-bed transfer, connecting the different stages of the mission. The type of ambulance and level of assistance required during the transfer are assessed according to the patient’s condition and the recommendations of the medical professionals involved. The objective is to avoid interruptions between the transfer from the departing facility, the medical flight and the subsequent ground transport to the destination facility. For the patient and their family, this means having a single point of contact coordinating the different parties involved in the mission. How FlairFly organises medical air transport
To assess a medical air transport request, some essential information about the patient and the mission is required. This normally includes the departure location, destination, planned date, number of passengers, the patient’s general condition, level of mobility, any need for a stretcher, required medical assistance, necessary equipment and any oxygen requirements. When required by the airline or operator, the relevant medical documentation may also be necessary, including the MEDIF (Medical Information Form). The MEDIF must be completed and signed by the appropriate medical professionals in accordance with the applicable procedures. FlairFly does not perform clinical assessments or determine a patient’s fitness to fly.Once the necessary information has been collected, FlairFly checks the availability of the appropriate aviation solution and coordinates, when required, the aircraft, medical personnel, ground ambulances and other services needed. Each quotation is therefore prepared according to the specific mission. There is no standard price for an air ambulance, as the configuration, route, aircraft, medical personnel and services involved can vary significantly.24/7 assistance for medical transport requests
Medical transport requests can come at any time, whether for planned transfers or situations requiring a rapid assessment.
FlairFly provides a direct 24/7 point of contact to collect the mission details, assess the available solutions and coordinate the parties involved.
When all the necessary information is available, the objective is to provide a quotation as quickly as possible, depending on the complexity of the mission and the response times of the operators and service providers involved.
For urgent requests, speed of coordination can be particularly important. However, the availability of the aircraft, medical personnel, ambulances and facilities involved must always be verified on a case-by-case basis.
Clinical decisions, fitness to fly and the level of medical assistance required always remain the responsibility of the medical professionals involved.
A single point of contact for a mission involving multiple parties
Organising medical transport often means coordinating much more than an aircraft. Family members, hospitals, healthcare facilities, air operators, medical and nursing personnel, ambulances and final destinations all need to be aligned according to the requirements of the mission.
This becomes even more important for international transfers, medical repatriations and missions requiring ground connections before and after the flight.
FlairFly acts as an Aviation Advisor and coordinator of the aviation and logistical components, maintaining communication between the different parties involved and ensuring that each element of the mission is organised according to the agreed requirements.
FlairFly does not replace the medical professionals involved, determine the patient’s fitness to fly or perform clinical assessments. Our role is to coordinate the transport solution through qualified air operators and service providers.

Frequently asked questions about medical air transport
Request a private air ambulance
If you need to arrange a medical transfer in Italy or abroad, speak directly with an Aviation Advisor at FlairFly. We can assess the mission, the requested route and the main operational requirements to identify the most appropriate air transport solution.Private air ambulance, medical air transport, hospital-to-hospital transfer, medical repatriation or medical evacuation: tell us about the mission and we will coordinate the aviation solution through certified air operators and, when required, qualified providers for related medical and ground services. For an initial assessment, the essential information is sufficient: departure location, destination, planned transfer date, number of passengers and the main requirements concerning the patient. If a stretcher, medical assistance on board, an accompanying doctor or nurse, specific equipment, an intensive level of care or a ground ambulance is required, it is useful to include this information in the initial request. When required by the carrier or operator, the medical documentation needed to assess fitness to fly may also need to be provided, including a MEDIF or other equivalent documentation. Medical documentation must be prepared by the appropriate medical professionals and reviewed according to the procedures applicable to the specific mission. Each mission is assessed individually. There is no standard air ambulance suitable for every patient, and there is no single price for all medical transfers.
